A culture of lies
Does any authority, body, documentary or informative source ever make the effort to tell the truth these days.
Believe me, I am no Tory, but this Blair government has made lying the currency of choice in every situation, be it for advantage, or simply because the effort involved in delivering real facts is considered unworthy of the effort.
What provokes this comment?
I have just had a music channel on TV introducing the highly mediocre singer Pink as a pop sensation who sold 3 million copies of her first album in the UK alone and over 20 million copies world wide. What a load of crap!
Yesterday the international music federation announced the world sales charts for the albums of 2005 with Cold Play coming out top. How many copies did they sell world wide?
Actually 8.3 million. It would appear that Pink can out sell them and the other top 3 bands/artist combined. Who gets paid for this TV research?
A couple of years ago I remember Robbie William’s publicity machine claiming that he had sold 18 million copies of his last release that year. Again, when the actual (impartial and accurate) figures were released it was U2 who were the year’s number one with sales of just over 7 million and having achieved number one status in 27 countries. Robbie Williams CD failed to chart in the single biggest market of all, the USA, from which U2 and most of the other top sales artists achieved nearly 50% of their sales.
