Splogging

Splogging

Although an SEO, I rarely comment on search engine related activities here, but on this occasion I am making an exception.

I have just read an article on SPLOGGING, the black hat SEO activity of creating fake blogs to promote a site, service or product and gain page rank with the SE’s.

I have known about this practice for a couple of years, but had no idea that there were now pieces of software available that can generate up to 100 new blogs in 30 minutes.

The activity is however a pointless one, google have some highly sophisticated anti splogging algo’s and blog visitors are now savy enough to spot the typical, “poorly dressed up” splog within seconds.

So why do webmasters and so called SEO’s splog?

For a very small number of SEO’s (who like me) are academically qualified in this field, there are ways of getting a real benefit from blogs, but it still takes proper work and the content has to be real. The rest, just follow like sheep and, failing to see the subtle nuances of how this is done, assume that reeling off blog after blog will work – it does not. The real tragedy is that the accessibility and ease of bloging to none IT web users is been harmed by this practice and ultimately for no ones real gain.

This site, blogeasy, is undoubtedly the biggest culprit of splogger support and should take action now to remove a good 80% of so called web logs that are in reality nothing more than promotional splogs. The problem is (in typical vicious circle syndrome) the generation of all these splogs helps bump up blogeasy’s own perceived value to SE’a and for that reason they tolerate it!
