The end of an era
I found out yesterday that my favourite restaurant, the Park Lane in Leeds, has been sold by its long time owner and head chef, Robert. This is bad, bad news as the Park Lane was, in my opinion, far and away the best restaurant in the city. It offered French cuisine and, although far from cheap, was a great place to have that “special night out”.
Sat in the grounds of a golf course and with table cloths (not bistro style), mild lighting and soft music in the background, it offered an eye into the more sophisticated eating habits of the past. The proprietor, Robert, was always entertaining and personable, the food, nothing short of stunning and, although always ridiculed for wanting my steak (when I ordered one) “well done”, it was none the less prepared exactly as I liked it.
The official handover is this Monday and we have (my whole family) been invited to a buffet which is intended to signal the event and no doubt promote the new owner-ship. It will be a sad day, we have always celebrated family events there and will no doubt have to find somewhere new as a result.
