Exploitation in Africa – a TV documentary

I watched a TV documentary late last night about an artificially created fishing industry and town (catching giant perch introduced in the 1950’s or 60’s) in east Africa – I think Tanzania.

I am still in shock. I actually think this program has changed my entire outlook on life.

I have seen all the usual ghettos and refugee camps on TV before, but nothing compared to this. Street children abandoned by their parents at 8 or 9, been beaten up every day, and attacked in every way imaginable (and I guess ways that I fortunately cannot imagine). A life where every single minute had the threat of attack and death. It was a 24 hour living nightmare – closer to hell than I could ever imagine.

Young women selling themselves for 10 shillings (their currency) per night to the visiting pilots who fly the fish back to Russia and from there on to Europe.

Some of these women and a security guard being paid one dollar a night (and having nothing more than a bow and arrow for protection) actually apologised for their lack of education as they fluently spoke English (a foreign tongue) and talked about what they would like from the world – if only they had the chance.

The industry is created by the officialdom of the European Union, but is run largely by Asians and Europeans who seem immune to the exploitation. They even sell the waste, fish heads and bones, to the people of the area as food – covered in maggots. Aids was also rife and there was simply no positive image to cling on to for any of these people.

The program ended in the most horrendous of ways with dual revelations.

Firstly a Russian pilot, who the program had focussed on and who seemed very troubled, explained that the planes he flew did not arrive in Tanzania empty, but full of weapons – he ultimately broke down as he expanded on the story and the effect he felt his actions were having. (I though him a brave and moral human being and he no doubt lost his job as a result of his revelations.)

The second, and gut wrenching revelation, was about the girl who sold her body to the pilots. She was truly charming and intelligent and would no doubt have prospered in any western society. She was stabbed to death by an Australian client during the making of the program. – His fate, if any, was not mentioned.

I don’t quite know how I have always managed to keep my head in the sand and block out things like this, but I am still struggling to grasp how appalling life must be for these people - And all because they were born in a certain place and at a certain time.

Streamline.net (web hosting) - A word of warning.

Do not use this shambles for your web hosting. They are UK based, cheap and I would like to say that you get what you pay for – except that they charge you multiple times for the same thing – so you get crap service and pay twice for it.

Trying to resolve problems with them is impossible. You have to use a ticketed system (i.e. email them on their own server controlled intranet) and although they claim a 24 hour response, they simply send you a reply telling you that your query has been upgraded to anything from level2, level3 to manager level (I guess whatever they invent at the time). You then get a reply 3 to 5 days later which simply demonstrates that they never read your question in the first place. Oh, and they edit out there responses on tickets and even delete some tickets completely.

They also register the domain that you pay for in their name and hope that you don’t spot it.

From now on I will give regular updates on this scam company. I intend to report them to the Department of Fair Trading this week, although I suspect it will not bother them in the slightest. They feign credibility by sponsoring companies like the Aston Martin racing team which makes you think that they are honest.

A bit of advice on domains and hosting – buy the two separately and from different companies. It makes it less likely that the likes of Streamline.net will try to use your money to buy your domain in their name.

Political valour

I see that a labour politician described as “obscene” the suggestion that the despicable Tessa Jowell has split with her husband over the weekend in order to distance herself from his financial dealings and save her political career.

“Obscene” certainly is the word, but it describes her actions, not those of her criticiser. It brings to mind the question, does she have children, friends and other family members who rely and interact on them both as a couple – and does her carrer value above this – obviously YES! The woman has no morals, scruples or self respect - but will no doubt “hook up” with her husband again once the foray of this event dies down. Wow, are we lucky to have such great role models as politicians.

I also see that the Oscar threw up a few shocks! Somehow I doubt that. Pre hype and claiming that a particular movie is a “dead cert” is what this pathetic “tap each other on the back” event is all about. I think the event should be limited to only dead actors and directors, then at least we would be saved from their self indulgent rambling during award collection – or better still have “exploding awards” (not real explosives) – Oscars full of paint or eggs that time out and cover the unsuspecting actor in goo!

Google again

I thought and hoped that the PR4 that this page has magically acquired has vanished as miraculously as it appeared – but n, it is back (as is the PR 3 on another of my “waste of space blogs). Yet my quality site sees another 46 pages fall off the google index.

charisma16.jpg

It is nothing short of soul destroying. I have provided an information center about Galicia for a year now, building up over 250 pages of real and totally original content, but google ignore it, remove it, devalue it and make it impossible to find whist giving values to SH*T like this.

Google site maps – they just make the pages disappear quicker, I am just about ready to give up, yet they tell me there are no errors, they can see the pages… just a joke.

Music, mime and rip offs

I wonder if I should be concerned about my sexuality! On of my favourite actresses is best know for dressing up as a male priest (Masako Natsume as Tripitaka) and I watch Desperate Housewives which I am told is a program with a primarily female audience.

But no, having seen Jeri Ryan (aka 7 of 9 in Voyager) in a “Dark Skies” re-run on Monday any doubts are quickly allayed.

Despite my confirmed heterosexual nature, I am continually irritated by the talent less miming female pop stars like the awful “Girls Aloud” and “Sugar Babes”. Why can we not see the real vocalists who actually sing the songs (these morons mime to) and are young people (who buy this crap) so stupid that they think that good looks and a good voice are given out in tandem.

If so, this must be one of Gods new designs – he certainly did not do it with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Mama Cass and Barbara S (I won’t mention the full name for fear of another sexuality questioning reference). Furthermore, if it is not a mime, the current theme is - lets take an old song, the original artist and their performance, make minor changes to the beat and take credit for it ourselves like Mec (or whatever he is called) with Leo Sayers “Thunder in my heart”. All this could be stopped in a minute if radio stations simply had an original music policy excluding covers and mimers.

The Artic Monkeys (a real band) – Saw one of their videos. Instrumentally not bad, but vocally – are they being serious!

Olympics, the "Blair" witch and my hair

I see Britain claimed only a single medal in the winter Olympics. It seems that all we do is moan about our long, cold, damp winter months, but when it comes to an area of sport where you would think our climate would help us we are as inept as ever.

I read today that Blair (not the witch) is exemplifying a specific school as a future model for one of his many sickening “babies” – this time privatising the funding (and no doubt control) of state education. I t strikes me as amazing beyond belief that the very school in question is in fact state and not privately funded! How is this an example of what the opposite system can provide!

a-monica_bellucci_1.jpg

Today I had my hair cut, a regular occurrence, but what is quite unusual is the fact that my hair dresser is the same guy who started cutting my hair when I was around 11 or 12. I briefly went else where (for 4 or 5 years) when he opened some shops/salons in London, but returned to him when he moved back to the north of England. The amazing thing is that when I was a kid, he (naturally) was an adult, but somehow his appearance has barely changed and now I think of him as someone of my own generation – a peer – all very odd.

George caught with drugs!

Buoyed on by the ridiculously high PR this blog has just attained, I now feel obliged to return to near daily entries.

I was, in all honesty, appalled to see that on an msn search for masako natsume this blog was ranked at 3, despite the presence of some great “Monkey” sites that also “biog” her in the results.

jeri_ryan_008.jpg

(Pic, the lovely Jeri Ryan - currently on 3 seperate TV shows in the UK)

Anyway on to other things. It looks likely that I will start including commercial ads for a couple of hotel on-line booking chains on my “up to now” advertisement free web guide to Galicia (not this blog). I will justify it as being an extra info resource for potential holiday makers to the area.

In the news today, George Michael caught with class C drugs (why can’t they just say “pot” or whatever it was). For someone worth tens of millions of pounds and with the adulation of multitude of fans, what is so lacking in his life that he needs chemical stimulation. Hell, I don’t need them and my life is nothing special.

Tragically today has the last episode of the brilliant “Life on Mars” on UK BBC1. This is the only decent thing BBC have produced in around 10 years and today is the last in the series. Will there be more? Since both lead actors seem to be in high demand at present it seems unlikely, but fingers crossed!

Still yet to convince myself to buy the new PC – I will try to make the decision today and now, off to pay some bills.

Tolerance – is it a sickness

Once upon a time having respect understanding and flexibility in what you expected and allowed from others was just decent behaviour.

Today we seem to have taken this to a new and totally obscene level. Making a routine error, as a driver in traffic, results in visual and verbal abuse from those who feel that they were personally wronged, but those same people will happily accept a 22% increase in fuel charges from a company that just made a billion pound profit – and without complaint.

The British prime minister is incapable of anything other than lies exiting his putrid mouth (along with all other politicians), but the public, knowing this, accept it and don’t call for his resignation, let alone some basic honesty.

It seems tolerance now extends to anything, even the forgive and forget attitude towards terrorists who are in theory British citizens, but went to Iraq to train and kill other Britons. What is going on!

Google are a joke

This blog has just gone from a google PR of zip to a PR of 4 overnight. Up to this week I have not made an entry for 2 months and have made no efforts at all to get any back links – and have very few at that.

Worse still another blog I have, which I meticulously make entries in (and that has been going for twice as long) has also miraculously gone from PR0 to PR3 – why less PR – it has better content, more links, entries and time on the google index.

But to really put the nail in the coffin my destination guide, a dot com which appears in numerous google searches (of several million results) on page one, has fallen from PR4 to PR3. It is a site with 250 pages, loads of organic quality links and totally original content – it is even mentioned in a BBC publication on sale next month.

I also see that an internet friend of mine, again with his own site, has seen a drop this morning from PR5 to PR2 – what the hell is going on with google! Is google just becoming a blog site and nothing more.

The irrepressible Monkey

Just watched the 1st of this week’s 2 brilliant episodes of Monkey, with the beast himself turning into a wasp, an old man and his own twin brother. The fat pig got strung up, sandy lost a fight and Tripitaka was just her usual stunning self. As ever Monkey saved the day and vanquished the protagonists, in this case cannibal demons.

See more of beautiful Masako, alias Tripitaka on this url: www.galiciaguide.com/Tripitaka.html

Despite defending a 22% increase in gas bills over the last 12 months, British Gas (or whatever name it goes by these days) just announced a billion pound profit in 2005.

Simultaneously they also announced that a further 20% increase in charges would be required this year.

The reasons:
1. Apparently not all areas of their business are profitable – what a shame, maybe they need £2billion instead.
2. Another lie – there prices are lower than the rest of Europe. Actually this is crap from a bunch of lying Ba****ds. My wife is Spanish, nearly all of her family live there and all fuel charges (both gas and electricity) are less than 35% of the price they are in the UK - and that after a 100% increase in Spain in the last 4 years.

How are British companies allowed to lie like this. In the rest of the EU they would be prosecuted! I wish Monkey and co could sort them out with some “Monkey magic”!
